Hey, pals! I’m having a long weekend in a place known for big hair, cowboy boots and cattle. That’s right. I’m in Texas.
But the best part of this weekend isn’t the larger-than-life culture. The choicest part of this temporary break from pumping out articles, chasing down Cardinal & Cream writers and working on school assignments was a reunion of many friendships.
A massive — OK, relatively — group of mega-talented photographers are here in good ol’ Ft. Worth for the annual Southwestern Photojournalism Conference. But there’s one person I was particularly interested in seeing again. She’s my fabulous DC darling, Mandie Sodoma.
I knew once my dear photojournalism professor mentioned the great SWPJC last semester that it was right up Mandie’s alley. So I mentioned it and suggested it and even begged her to come from rainy Seattle, and almost didn’t get her here to the talkiest, friendliest region of the U.S.
When I saw her bright red hair and unmistakeable Northwestern style— for the first time in about a year and a half — I could help but sprint across the almost empty lobby. We’ve heard (and are still hearing) from some fabulous professionals, attended a cowboy church and eaten midnight pancakes, crepes and biscuits-n-gravy.
Taking a break and seeing friends like these here in Texas is just what this college girl needed.
I want to know more about you! Who is someone you haven’t seen in ages?
